Former DFB star shocks with statement: "I would have had no problem dying"

Former national team player Lina Magull talks about serious health problems in a podcast. "I wouldn't have had a problem dying," she says about last summer.
Lina Magull revealed in the podcast "How are you?" that she suffered from severe depression . The causes of her mental illness were both athletic and personal.
After the German team's elimination in the preliminary round of the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, "pillars I stood on fell away one after the other. I was totally confused and didn't know what to do with myself," Magull said of her slightly declining importance within the national team and her then-club, FC Bayern Munich. There were also drastic changes in her private life.
After her move to Inter Milan in early 2024, the footballer fell into a deep hole. "I fled Munich, but after a few weeks, I missed it terribly. I thought I'd lost everything," Magull says. In addition to sleep problems, she was caught in a spiral of negativity.
Magull continued: "I started sweating , I started having panic attacks . That was the moment when I thought, what's wrong with me? It really scared me a little. Like, extreme fear. Not just a little."
In the summer of 2024, Magull finally felt compelled to seek professional help. "I then went to a private clinic. I knew I had to do it because my thoughts had become so degenerate that I no longer saw any meaning in life. I would have had no problem dying." After six weeks of treatment, Magull returned to Inter Milan. "It taught me so much. I'm really glad I went there," Magull said in retrospect.
In March 2025, she retired from the national team after 77 caps and 22 goals. Magull scored seven goals and provided three assists in 26 competitive matches for Inter this season.
